COBOL Developer – Development, Maintenance & Support 3-8 yrs

Brief DescriptionJob Summary: We are looking for a skilled COBOL Developer responsible for both application development and maintenance/support of existing COBOL-based systems. The role involves designing, coding, testing, and implementing new features, as well as troubleshooting, enhancing, and ensuring the smooth functioning of legacy applications. You will work closely with business analysts, QA teams, and system administrators to deliver reliable and efficient business solutions. Development:

Analyze business and technical requirements to design and develop new COBOL programs.

Create and modify COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2/VSAM components as per specifications.

Perform unit testing, integration testing, and support UAT activities.

Prepare and maintain technical design documents and test plans.

Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding and quality standards.

Maintenance & Support:

Provide L2/L3 production support for COBOL applications.

Investigate and resolve incidents, defects, and performance issues.

Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term fixes.

Handle batch job monitoring, error handling, and recovery processes.

Execute change requests, patches, and enhancements with minimal downtime.

Maintain detailed logs and documentation for changes and releases.

Support migration, modernization, and integration initiatives when required.

Preferred SkillsTechnical Skills Required:

Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and CICS.

Experience working on Mainframe (z/OS) or AS/400 (iSeries) platforms.

Good understanding of file systems, batch processing, and data handling.

Experience with version control and change management tools (e.g., Endevor, Changeman).

Familiarity with incident management tools such as ServiceNow or Remedy.

Strong debugging and performance tuning skills.
