Brief DescriptionPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong expertise in Netezza to Oracle database migration. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical depth, hands-on migration experience, and strategic oversight to ensure seamless, secure, and optimized transitions from legacy Netezza platforms to modern Oracle environments (on-prem, Exadata, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure).

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage end-to-end migration projects from Netezza to Oracle, including assessment, planning, execution, validation, and optimization.

Analyze existing Netezza environments (schemas, data, stored procedures, ETL jobs) and design corresponding Oracle-compatible structures.

Oversee schema conversion, data type mapping, and SQL/PLSQL refactoring, ensuring functional equivalence and performance.

Implement data migration strategies (connected/disconnected modes, incremental loads, delta strategies) for large-scale databases.

Automate migration workflows using ETL/ELT tools (Oracle Data Integrator, Informatica, DataStage) and scripting languages (Python, UNIX shell).

Ensure data quality and integrity via robust validation and reconciliation processes.

Optimize post-migration Oracle database performance, leveraging features like partitioning, indexing, and Exadata enhancements.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (DBAs, architects, data engineers, and business stakeholders) to align migration with business goals.

Provide documentation, training, and knowledge transfer for smooth post-migration operations.

Ensure compliance with security, governance, and industry best practices during migration.

Preferred SkillsRequired Skills & Qualifications

8+ years of experience in database administration, engineering, or migrations.

3–5 years of direct experience with Netezza and Oracle environments.

In-depth knowledge of Netezza architecture (AMPP, NZSQL, NZLOAD, distribution strategies) and Oracle databases (12c, 19c, Exadata, Autonomous Data Warehouse, OCI).

Proven track record of handling large-scale migrations (hundreds of terabytes, thousands of database objects).

Strong SQL and PL/SQL expertise, with ability to convert and optimize complex queries and stored procedures.

Proficiency with ETL/ELT tools (ODI, Informatica, DataStage) and migration utilities (Oracle SQL Developer, Data Sync, STAR*M, X2XConverter).

Experience in scripting/automation (UNIX shell, Python).

Solid knowledge of data validation, testing frameworks, and performance tuning.

Familiarity with cloud migration strategies (OCI, FastConnect, Object Storage) and hybrid data architectures (Data Lakes, Data Mesh).

Strong problem-solving, impact analysis, and project management skills.

Excellent communication and documentation abilities for cross-team collaboration.

Desirable Certifications

Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)—Oracle Database / Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect / Oracle Autonomous Database Specialist.

IBM Certified Specialist – Netezza (or equivalent).

Certifications in ETL/cloud tools (e.g., Informatica, ODI, AWS/Azure Data Engineer).

Preferred Industry Experience

Banking, Financial Services, Insurance (BFSI), Retail, or other data-intensive domains.

Prior work on migrations with mission-critical, high-availability systems.
